A referral is not typically necessary for treatment, although some health plans may require it. The best way to find out is usually to contact your company’s human resources department or to call your insurance provider directly with your questions.
Is chiropractic treatment safe?
Chiropractic is a very safe form of treatment for neuromusculoskeletal issues, as it works without the use of pharmaceuticals or invasive therapies. Of course, any health treatment, whether from a chiropractor or a medical doctor does have its risks. Research is showing that chiropractic is considerably safer than other treatments for musculoskeletal pain, such as over-the-counter nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.

Children can certainly benefit from chiropractic care. We work with the patient and parents or guardians to develop a safe and effective treatment plan personalized for the child’s optimal health. Children actually experience a number of injuries due to their active nature, and chiropractic can help alleviate back pain, neck pain, and sports injuries.
Is chiropractic treatment covered by medical insurance?
In many cases, the answer is yes. Even Medicare and some Medicaid plans have provisions for chiropractic care. Most major medical plans do, as well. Whether for Worker’s Compensation or motor vehicle accidents, many insurance policies offer coverage that includes chiropractic care.
What qualifications must a chiropractor have?
Chiropractic doctors generally study pre-med in their undergraduate college education, studying biology, organic chemistry, psychology, and more. They receive the same level of education as any primary-contact health care provider. Of course, the emphasis of their studies is on diagnosing and treating conditions of the musculoskeletal system. Upon acceptance, applicants study for four to five years at a chiropractic college, gaining a minimum of 4,200 hours of experience in the classroom, laboratory, and clinics.
What happens during a chiropractic adjustment?
When you receive an adjustment at Ballard Central Chiropractic, you will benefit from the doctors’ extensive education and experience. Chiropractors use their hands and sometimes specialized instruments to manipulate the spine and other joints of the body in order to restore motion and improve their function.
Will I need ongoing chiropractic care?
At Ballard Central Chiropractic, our patients’ wishes are respected. Most treatments will call for multiple adjustments, but the number required for relief or recovery is dependent upon a number of factors. Whether or not you choose ongoing support care is up to you.
What is the popping sound?
When the joint is manipulated, a gas bubble pops, making the sound you hear. This is the same thing that happens when you “crack” your knuckles. It is simply the result of a pressure change within the joint. It is typically not an uncomfortable experience.
